WAME Radio was created in the late 1950’s and came on the air as WDBM-AM. Our call letters were changed to WAME-AM in the late 1990’s. Located at the end of the AM radio dial at 550khz, our signal is heard from the North Carolina/South Carolina border to the NC/Virginia border. In 2007 W225BD, FM translator was added at 92.9mhz. Our FM covers most all of Iredell County.

Our general offices and transmitters are located at 212 Signal Hill Dr. and our studios are located at 101 South Center St. in downtown Statesville. In March 2015 WAME was purchased from GHB Radio by Signal Hill Media Partners, LLC. In December 2015 we moved our studios from Signal Hill to Downtown Statesville at 113 North Center St. At this location we began broadcasting “live & local” radio programs. We had a large studio that would accommodate local bands and performers in our street level studio. Large windows allowed the public to enjoy watching and listening to the shows.

In January of 2020, the opportunity became available for us to move the studio to 101 South Center St. This iconic, historic building, on the square, has the “town clock” atop the 3rd story. Hence, we call it the “clock tower building”. We have 2500 square feet of space that houses our on-air studio and our performance stage area. We can accommodate most any size band and have seating for 30 people to watch our shows. We could not have created such a space without the help of great sponsors. Our whole studio is sponsored by Randy Marion Automotive. Our Performance Stage area is primarily sponsored by Piedmont Healthcare. All American Stage, Sound, Lights, created the stage sound and lighting. According to the performers who have played here, the sound is fantastic. (We Agree).

Unlike the radio stations located in the “big cities”, WAME concentrates on providing our local communities with information and local entertainment. We are committed to providing the kind of radio station that our community can count on every day. In 2020, we provided over $82,000.00 worth of free advertising to local non-profits which is something that makes us extremely proud.
